The project is being run by HomeFront, which intends to provide everyone with access to affordable housing. It has been given the opportunity to purchase 200 of the man camp pods, which will be converted into a housing complex with 100 units.
Brian Starr, the director of construction and procurement at HomeFront, commented in a statement that:
“We are in dire need of housing and especially affordable housing. Units will] have two pods connected with a living room, kitchen in the center of each one. So, two pods will create one two-bedroom, two bath unit.”
Starr also said that the plan is still in its early phases. The camps have not yet been purchased, though an agreement to purchase them is in place. The camps located in Williston were only ever occupied for about three months. Graphic design can be used to illustrate what project like this will look like when complete.
HomeFront’s CEO stated the company intends to have the units occupied by 2024. A waiting list for units has been started, and more than 200 people have signed up to get a one-bedroom unit. The waiting for the two bedrooms is also long already, which has resulted in HomeFront deciding to commence construction on those units first.
