Hadestown brings mythic musical to Billings
A retelling of an acclaimed musical will be coming to Billings.
The plot of Hadestown intertwines two well-known legends: Orpheus and Eurydice along with that of Hades and Persephone. Its unique combination of blues, folk, and jazz sounds brought about by different musical themes takes the audience to the underworld. Anaïs Mitchell originally produced it as a concept album but it was eventually released on Broadway in 2019 to much praise and won 8 Tony awards including the Best Musical category.
The story tells of Orpheus who loved Eurydice dearly, however, when Eurydice was taken away from him by Hades their love faced a very serious test. He responded by going on a journey through time using only music, hoping to find her again. The subplot explores the love relations between Hades and Persephone as they deal with issues connected to supremacy, romance and cyclical aspects of life and death.
This play is well recognized for its unique set design as well as the staging techniques that come with it. This included moving platforms and beautiful illuminations in addition to having a live performance by an orchestra on stage. Print shops can help to put together set designs.
