The Billings Clinic has confirmed plans to become designated as a Level I Trauma Center.
This designation will allow the hospital to expand the life-saving area it serves. It will also put it in a better position to save lives and ensure that the community has access to a 24/7 trauma center.
Scott Ellner, the CEO of the Billings Clinic, said:
“This is a transformational effort that will increase the level of lifesaving trauma care for patients and families across Montana and Wyoming. Level I is the gold standard for trauma care and aligns with Billings Clinic’s commitment to innovation.”
In order to fund this achievement, the Billings Clinic Foundation is seeking $30m in investment. It has already raised $13m in the form of pledges that came from three donors - the Philip N. Fortin Foundation gifted $7m, Tim and Carmen Sheehy gave $1m, and $5m came from a donor who prefers to remain anonymous, as some donors do when giving Corporate Gifts.
The Billings Clinic has been a Level II Trauma Center since 1992. It already has several of the elements required for an upgrade, including services dedicated to trauma, emergency cardiopulmonary bypass and heart surgery facilities, 24/7 radiology, and an extensive network of affiliates. Some of the funds raised will be used to expand the existing surgical facilities and cut down on transport delays.
