A safety committee in Columbia is turning to Sweden’s ‘Vision Zero’ policy ,which focuses on reducing injuries and death through street design, enforcement, and education.
Columbia is facing challenges on the roadways and has taken action by forming a committee divided into three subcommittees to address education, engineering, and enforcement issues facing them. The goal is to reduce pedestrian accidents and fatalities.
Although the committee has been working hard to increase pedestrian safety, there are still some obstacles facing the implementation of their recommendations. This campaign could benefit from the services of a local printing service to provide Brochures and pamphlets educating the public on their mission, as well as help rally additional support for their efforts.
The committee hopes to obtain their goals through additional law enforcement, adding red light cameras, outlawing cell phone usage, and lowering traffic speed limits. The plans are met with some opposition, although most councilmen support banning the use of cell phones and managing speed limits to a point, they do not like the idea of red light cameras and disagree on speed limits.
Although funds do not currently exist for this project, the council is asking the city to set money aside for this effort. Businesses that strongly favor the move could consider joining in by making donations, perhaps obtained from Promotional Products, to help support the effort.
