The sooner a developmental issue is found in a child, the sooner it can be addressed, and a Columbia activity may help.
The Children's Program Room at the Columbia Public Library will be the location for an activity that may help to identify developmental issues in kids from the ages of two to five years. The sessions will take place in person, and the Boone County Early Childhood Coalition (BCECC) will be facilitating the initiative.
The screeners will conduct a 10-minute survey with each of the children who take part, and after this, the results will be reviewed with their parents or guardians. Should there be any issues, appropriate supports and services can be recommended, and caregivers will also receive other resources. The families will each be seen individually, and the schedule runs for two hours on the morning of its scheduled dates.
Parents of special needs kids may feel overwhelmed at first, and finding out about the resources available to them may help. A brochure printing company can prepare a variety of materials, and these can be packaged together in parent resource kits.
The schedule of these opportunities for Columbia families to access a free screening for their child begins today (January 10), but it will also be offered on January 29, February 17, and February 28. Its listing on the Daniel Boone Regional Library website provides further information.
