Columbia celebration to combine learning with family fun

Pollinators fill a vital role in both the human and natural world, and a day on the agenda for Columbia will be all about these important players in the area’s ecosystem.

The Family Fun Fest planned for the city in August will bring the community together in the spirit of celebration. Thanks in part to the generosity of a group of civic minded sponsors, Albert-Oakland Park is set to serve as the location for this family-friendly event.

The function will combine literacy with learning about the natural world, and as “fun” will be the watchword for the day, there will be live performances as well as food trucks and an assortment of organized activities. The Bookmobile operated by Daniel Boone Regional Library will be parked on site, offering an opportunity to check out some new reading material, and everyone will be able to learn about the birds, bees, butterflies, bats, moths, and other pollinators that call the area home.

Being part of this sort of function offers a fun way to get kids interested in the natural world. Print shops can design activity sheets, basic field guides, and other materials that make learning fun to distribute to the crowd.

The Bookworms and Butterflies instalment of Columbia’s Family Fun Fest will be held on August 18. It will welcome the public from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
