Mike Luther and Justin King, the men behind Bottleneck Hospitality, are planning to open a restaurant in East Lansing. Bar Mitena will be influenced by the cuisine and wines of Spain.
Bar Mitena's kitchen will be the domain of Luther, who will be the restaurant's executive chef, while King will act as the sommelier for both the restaurant and bar. Wine & Spirits magazine recently named King as one of the nation's best sommeliers.
Bridge Street Social, which opened in 2016 in Dewitt, is a Bottleneck venture, and the bar manager there, Christian Gray, will be coming to Bar Mitena to help oversee its operation. King noted that Gray is already developing a wine list that could have as many as 500 bottles on it. The partners say their new restaurant will be largely wine- and cocktail-driven, but they plan to have a few beers on the menu, as well as unusual Spanish spirits.
King said that the food will probably be a variant on the kinds of tapas found in Barcelona, or San Sebastian's pintxos (finger foods served in Spain's Basque country). These might include a stew made with white beans known as fabada asturiana, or a bacalao (codfish stew). In order to invite customers to try a new venture like this, operators might distribute Promotional Products during its first weeks of operations.
King and Luther hope to open their new restaurant in April.
