Small grocery set for Lansing City Market

A new grocery is set to open in Lansing soon.

A small store, comprising about 1,000 square feet, will open in the Lansing City Market. The store’s owner, Igor Jurkovic, already operates the Mediteran Café and Catering in the downtown area, and notes that while everyone is focusing on breweries and bar, there is no store in the area at which shoppers can stop in to pick up a few groceries.

Jurkovic says he plans to offer deli cheeses and meats, beer made in Michigan, wine, and grocery staples like milk and bread. He is also planning to hire three employees to run the grocery.

Audrey Tipper, who manages Lansing City Market, says the store promises to be a great addition to the location. The small grocery, which will be the ninth vendor located inside the market, will let people who live in the local area pick up things they need daily. Although the main market closes at 6:00 pm, Jurkovic says he will keep the grocery store open until 9:00 pm, so that people getting off work have time to stop and shop on their way home.

The new store is slated to open November 1, and Jurkovic might consider having fun, colorful Banners printed to hang above the entrance to celebrate the opening, and to welcome his first customers.
