Music leads into Lansing holidays

A concert of traditional Christmas music is planned for Lansing.

The Lansing Symphony Orchestra will offer the Holiday Pops, a concert that has become a tradition in the city. The orchestra will perform under the direction of Timothy Muffitt, with special guest, tenor Travis Williams. The program is full of traditional carols and holiday tunes.

The Music Director of the orchestra, Timothy Muffitt, has held the post for 14 years, during which time he has presented new music, and also maintained a strong program of the masterpieces of classical music. The Lansing Symphony Orchestra was created in 1929, and is known as one of the most important cultural institutions of the Midwest.

The LSO strives to connect with audiences personally, sharing the power of music played live with those who attend its concerts. The Pops Series is an effort of the orchestra to engage new audience members using popular music.

Travis Williams is a recent graduate of the Lee Honors College of Western Michigan University. A look at the list of songs he presented at his recital shows a wide range, from popular music to opera and art songs. Selections included “Che gelida manina” from Puccini's “La Bohème,” and "Zueignung,” a lied by Richard Strauss.

The concert is scheduled for December 20 at 3:00 pm, held at the Wharton Center for the Performing Arts. Brochure printing can provide colorful programs for performances like this.
