Jarl Brey, who is with Capitol Zip of Portland, and who wants to set up a zip line in downtown Lansing, has seen his proposal delayed again.
The proposal was supposed to be brought before the city council on March 14, but other matters pushed it off the agenda. The matter needs to be reviewed before a lease can be negotiated. The lease is still under review by deputy city attorney Joseph Abood.
The measure was mooted to be on the city's agenda for its meeting yesterday, though Councilwoman Carol Wood said other issues might delay it again.
Brey proposes investing $1.7m in a rope course and three-story zip line across the Grand River. It would be located in Adado Riverfront Park, north of Saginaw Street. At the site, a zip line 400 feet long would run across the river from the east bank to the west. Patrons would use a different zip line to get back.
If the proposal is approved, Brey and the parks department would negotiate a lease for 10 years. Brey plans to raise money for the zip line from private investors, not the city, and hopes to open the course some time in Spring or Summer 2017.
Brey could work with a brochure printing company to create colorful Booklets to interest potential investors.
