Lansing workshop to prepare public for mental health crises

The Community Mental Health of Clinton-Eaton-Ingham Counties (CMHA-CEI) in Lansing will hold the Mental Health First Aid workshop this June to help prepare community members if they encounter mental health emergencies.

The CMHA-CEI is a mental health service provider serving the Lansing area. It provides a comprehensive set of person-centered behavioral health and developmental disability services for the community. The Mental Health First Aid course will prepare participants on how to respond to and help individuals experiencing a mental health or substance abuse crisis.

Before attending the in-person training, participants will be required to finish two hours of self-paced online training to build the proper foundation. The in-person training will focus on how to provide initial help to those experiencing psychosis, severe depression, panic attacks, or suicidal thoughts or behavior. Students will learn the possible warning Signs of a substance abuse disorder or mental health crisis, the ALGEE five-step action plan to help assess the situation, and where to seek community resources in the area.

Educational training events are often accompanied by Brochures that can be handed out to attendees. Local Print shops specializing in brochure printing can help organizers Print such materials.

The mental health course is scheduled for June 15 from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm. It will take place at 812 E Jolly Road. The class fee is $15.
