Lansing unveils diverse development

A new mixed-use development featuring 66 units recently opened in Lansing.

Called ‘The Midtown’, it opened on September 16 with both politicians and business persons attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

PNC Bank has been a tenant of the complex for the past 90 days, and tenants have been moving in since last month. The building is clad in colorful materials in hues of blue, green, and lavender.

The building was developed by the Gillespie Group, and CEO Pat Gillespie says the choice to use color on the building's facade was the result of trips he and others took to various cities that are successfully using color in their downtowns.

The Midtown is a $6.8m project featuring high-end apartments, the PNC Bank branch office, and an Ethiopian restaurant. Currently, the building is 87% leased, and the developer is putting emphasis on attracting young professionals and international students.

Often, brochure printers are used to create a booklet to distribute to realtors, both commercial and residential, to draw attention to new developments like this.

The Midtown stands in contrast to a brown and beige building across the street. Gillespie acknowledged that not everyone might like the colors, but also says the building space is being leased at a rapid rate. Biggby Coffee will move in soon, and Battery Giant is expected to open its location on October 11.
