August 7th and 9th were fun days for Lansing residents, when two family-friendly events combined their efforts.
The City of East Lansing's National Night Out took place at the East Lansing Library, and was combined with a Touch-a-Truck event.
The National Night Out allows residents to meet up and talk face-to-face with police and learn about the training they undertake, promoting crime prevention and helping the police build good relationships with the communities they serve. Special treats included cotton candy provided by the library, but perhaps the biggest thrill of all for the children was Jack, the quarter horse that belongs to Marisa Cassar, an Ingham County Deputy Sheriff.
The concurrent Touch-a-Truck event allows both children and adults to climb onto various pieces of equipment, sit in the driver's seat, honk the horns, and generally make noise. Among the vehicles open for inspection were a police cruiser and motorcycle, a fire truck, and a recycling truck.
Another Touch-a-Truck event was held shortly after at Sharp Park. During the second installment, the vehicles featured included the police and fire equipment, in addition to an ambulance, snow plow, semi, garbage truck, dump truck, and backhoe.
