Lansing, Michigan residents who want to try their hand at artwork will have their chance this weekend, as the Michigan Historical Museum (MHM) invites them to come and have some fun exploring street art.
The MHM in Lansing is the flagship institution of the state’s museum system, which is part of the Department of Natural Resources. Along with other institutions in the system, it hosts a program called ‘Second Saturday’, when the museums hold events designed to raise awareness of issues dealing with the arts and conservation.
This Saturday, people are invited to look at various types of street art, including collages and graffiti. Not only that, but visitors who wish to do so can take part in creating an art installation that will fill an entire room - the ‘Time Lab’. They will literally be able to leave their own mark on the museum by adding their touches to the project.
The program is open tomorrow, February 9, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, and the price for the event is included with museum general admission. Other subjects for Second Saturdays include architecture, now scheduled for April. Visitors will be able to devise plans for a building.
Visitors may park on the north side of Kalamazoo Street. There is no charge to park during weekends, and the museum is free on Sundays. It could work with poster printing experts to create colorful materials to display throughout Lansing, inviting people to the event.
