Lansing projects coming to fruition

A number of developments are nearing completion in Lansing, and it is hoped that they will transform the areas in which they are located.

The Lansing State Journal reports that most of the new projects are mixed-use developments, so city officials might consider working with brochure printers to create mailers to send to realtors, discussing the benefits of locating in Lansing.

Knapp’s Center is in downtown Lansing, and is a conversion of the art deco-style J.W.Knapp’s Department store into a mixed-use project with apartments, offices, and retail space, as well as an incubator, named The Runway, intended to help small fashion businesses.

Red Cedar Renaissance, on the east side, is a renovation of the Red Cedar Golf Course. This project will have apartments, recreation, entertainment, and retail, and approximately 20 acres of the new development will be preserved as parkland.

The Park District is located in downtown East Lansing, and is a renovation of an intersection that comprises four buildings, including office space, retail, apartments, and possibly a hotel.

The Heights at Eastwood is a private-public development in Lansing Township, just north of the Eastwood Towne Center, and currently includes two restaurants, a Hyatt hotel, and an apartment building.

Meridian Mall is welcoming new stores as old ones close; it is also planning an 18,650 square foot addition, which, when added to the space being converted, would provide a new, unnamed tenant with a total of 30,000 square feet.
