Lansing conference to explore DNA and family lineages

This November, the 2024 Fall Family History Event with Angie Bush will take place in Lansing for anyone interested in the intersection of DNA and genealogy in discovering the mysteries of family histories.

The Michigan Genealogical Council along with the Library of Michigan and the Archives of Michigan will present the conference as an in-person event and a virtual one via Zoom. The featured speaker will be Angie Bush, M.S., who is a genetic genealogist researcher employed with Ancestry ProGenealogists. Her work often revolves around unknown parentage cases, but she also enjoys uncovering the mysteries of “brick wall” lineages using a combination of genetic evidence and traditional family records.

Discussions will include topics such as how to use DNA as a tool, how to research with state census records, and what are the practical applications of DNA research. Other speakers include Eric Kennedy, law reference librarian at the Library of Michigan, and Kris Rzepczynski, senior archivist at the Archives of Michigan. Attendees will have the option of either a downloadable syllabus or printed one.

Organizer of such events that utilize printed materials like syllabus handouts may call upon local printing services to produce these in bulk.

The 2024 MGC Fall Family History Event will be held on November 16 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. It will take place at Michigan Library and Historical Center, located at 702 West Kalamazoo Street.
