Chevrolet construct new generation vehicle in Lansing

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will be revealed to the public later this year, and it will be the first Camaro to be built in Lansing.

The appearance of the sixth-generation muscle car will be the highlight of a day of celebration that General Motors is planning.

The auto manufacturer anticipates that as many as 1,000 Camaro fans will attend the event, which will include a meet-and-greet with designers and engineers who worked on the car, a ride around a grand prix race track in a Z/28, and an exhibition of historic Camaros. Owners will be allowed to park in a special area, creating a sort of a car show of their own. However, the real excitement will come that night, when GM rolls out the 2016 Camaro.

Todd Christensen, who is Camaro’s marketing manager, said the car was lucky to have such an enthusiastic following, so it seems proper to allow as many Camaro enthusiasts as possible to come to the unveiling. By introducing the Camaro outside the usual venue of auto shows, GM will draw attention squarely to the Camaro, which is plans to build at the Lansing Grand River assembly plant, where it also builds the Cadillac CTS and ATS luxury autos.

General Motors might consider working with a banner printing company to create a celebratory banner to hang over the race track on the day of the new Camaro’s introduction, which is May 16.
