The Allen Neighborhood Center recently announced it is opening an accelerator kitchen as part of its efforts to help start-up businesses.
The new program is an outgrowth of the incubator kitchen program at the center, an effort that was launched in 2014. Participants in the incubator program are able to rent kitchen space by the hour; those young companies chosen for the accelerator program will be able to rent their space by the month. Companies that participate in programs like this often use Logo Design to create their identity and brand, a vital part of any business.
The terms “incubator” and “accelerator” are sometimes used interchangeably, but they are not identical concepts. Accelerators usually work within a time limit, during which individual companies have access to mentors for a few weeks or months as they build their businesses. Incubators are encountered much earlier in the process, usually when a company is just getting started. Graduates of incubators may go on to accelerators.
In Lansing, the accelerator kitchen will be available to five companies that have graduated from the kitchen incubator program. The accelerator kitchen will allow cooks and chefs who are just launching their businesses access to prep and kitchen space that would be beyond their reach if they were working alone. Although there are currently nineteen start-ups in the incubator, the five who will use the accelerator have not been named. However, they should be in place by the end of the year.
