Summer Kalamazoo tours to restart

The free historic walking tours of Kalamazoo will be resuming this month.

Co-sponsored by Gazelle Sports and the Western Michigan University Archives and Regional History Collections, the tours are usually 1.5 to 2 miles long and last about 90 minutes. Coordinator of the Collections, Lynn Houghton, plans and leads the tours. Since 2002, she has put together 86 different tours and will be adding four new ones for this year.

Attendees will not only get the opportunity for some good exercise, but will also learn about the architecture and history of the community of Kalamazoo and the institutions and organizations that have impacted the area.

Tours will be held on Friday mornings, beginning at 8:00 am, and Thursday evenings beginning at 6:30 pm.

There will be two Friday morning tours in June, the first of which is on June 5 of the Haymarket Historic District, and the second is on June 19 of the Edison Neighborhood.

The two Thursday evening tours in June will be on June 11, taking in the Vine Historic District, and on June 25 heading along the Short Road/Long Road.

New tours scheduled for July and August include Healthcare in Kalamazoo, the Vine Historic District, Preservation in Kalamazoo, and the Village of Schoolcraft.

Most likely both organizations are turning to flyer printing companies to Print informative and attractive Flyers to generate enthusiasm in the community.
