The restart of a service by United Airlines at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport, and a change in flight schedule by American, could give the airport a boost in air passenger traffic this year.
According to David Reid, director of the airport, passenger traffic had been down during the first 10 months of the year. Delta had cut two of its six daily flights in the middle of the year, one in the early morning and the other in the late afternoon, which were popular for business travelers. American Airlines had also eliminated one of its five daily direct flights to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago when it merged with USAir.
He said that Delta added those flights back in November and will have two direct daily flights to Minneapolis and four direct daily flights to Detroit beginning this month. In addition, United Airlines restarted its service last month from Kalamazoo direct to Chicago, and American will have four direct flights to Chicago daily.
Having three of the four major airline carriers flying in and out of the airport is a major accomplishment for the airport, Reid added, and is a good sign for the future.
Reid is working to let travelers know about the new additions in airline service, and may look to local Print companies for help with printing Flyers and other promotional materials that can be distributed through various channels.
