Kalamazoo is once again clearing its streets in anticipation of a marathon scheduled to take place in late April. This race is comprised of a series of unique competitions, and it boasts a track record of more than four decades.
The Zeigler Kalamazoo Marathon was first held in 1980. Originally known as The Borgess Run for the Health of It, the race primarily focused on promoting community wellness. It has since expanded to host countless runners, and the types of races have also grown to cater to an even wider audience.
This year's marathon offers several unique opportunities. These include a full marathon, a half marathon, a 5K walk, a relay competition, and a 1K children's race. Participants will also be provided with a handful of complimentary gifts upon completion. Commemorative T-Shirts, medals for the top contestants, and food are some examples.
This race is one leg of a nation-wide event known as the 50-State Challenge. Anyone who competes can therefore include Michigan as a state that they already completed.
