Kalamazoo will be holding its third annual Ultimate Extreme Ultra .1K later this month.
The race is a “spoof run” that starts near the Union Bar & Grille and the Central City Tap House in the Epic Center, covering a distance of about 329 feet. The goal is to raise money for Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, which provides care at the end of life, and grief support for families in the counties of Van Buren, Cass, and Kalamazoo.
Runners are kept on track with pace setters, water stations are present throughout the course, and some people even wear cocktail dresses and high heels. The event is geared around fun rather than competition, and massage therapists are available after the race to sooth muscles.
There will also be deals on food and drink downtown, raffle drawings, music by the Shelagh Brown Band, a free Kids’ Fun Run, and a contest for the wackiest costume.
The cost of registration is $25 and those who do so early will receive stadium cups, run shirts, and drawstring Backpacks.
Activities for the event start at 11:00 am on September 26. Most likely, Tom Jager, founder of the race, is working with a local flyer printing company to Print a colorful and wacky flyer that will attract as many people as possible to participate in the race, and simply enjoy the day.Get a Free Quote for Backpacks Get a Free Quote for Print
