Grand Blanc training to focus on impairment detection skills

A two-day instructional program in Grand Blanc will provide law enforcement personnel and select legal professionals with advanced training to improve impaired-driving recognition.

The course is designed to strengthen investigative skills related to alcohol and drug influence during roadside encounters.

The program includes a refresher segment on standardized sobriety evaluation methods, along with instruction on observational techniques used to identify impairment indicators. Participants are required to demonstrate competency in established field testing procedures at the end of the refresher portion. Those unable to meet performance standards may not continue in the course.

Enrollment is restricted to motor carriers, police officers, enforcement personnel, and prosecutors. Attendance requires prior completion of standardized sobriety training, with documentation verified at the start of instruction. Registration is limited due to capacity constraints, and applicants must complete enrollment through an official professional development platform before the deadline. Course organizers note that demand typically exceeds available space. As with many public safety training programs, brochure printing is often used to provide attendees with take-home information

Instruction will be led by a certified drug recognition expert trainer, one who has experience in law enforcement education and field operations. The course is provided at no cost, with all materials included. Professional attire is required for participants.

The training is scheduled for Monday, May 4, through Tuesday, May 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Grand Blanc Township Police Department, 5405 South Saginaw St, Grand Blanc, Michigan.
