A Thanksgiving weekend tradition, the Black Toenail Friday Half Marathon will be returning to Commerce Township this October, looking to provide a moderate athletic challenge.
The race challenges participants to run a half-marathon distance, or a shorter 7.5 mile route. The run is popular as a way to enjoy outdoor fall colors nearby Commerce while also burning off calories from Thanksgiving indulgence. The race course will include aid stations with water and supplements. The run will be timed with chips from Trivium Racing, with the top finishers receiving awards and medals.
Registrants will receive a long-sleeved tech shirt and commemorative finisher’s medal. Runs and other athletic challenges often use local printing services to create their own custom clothing to reward participation. The Black Toenail run also offers discount packages without these items, as well as virtual options for those running the distance as home.
This year’s run will introduce “ruck” divisions, for runners who want to challenge themselves by carrying a 20-30 pound pack. The race also contributes points towards the Trivium Southeast Michigan Running Series & Club Competition, and is the final run in the 2026 Michigan Mega Medal Series. The finish line will include refreshments and award presentations.
The 2026 Black Toenail Friday Half Marathon and 7.5 Miler will take place at Proud Lake State Rec Area in Commerce Township on November 27.
