New festival to launch in Commerce

The Heart of the Lakes Festival will be holding its inaugural edition this June, looking to showcase the community and culture of Commerce Township.

The one-day event will kick off with a five kilometer run and a pancake breakfast. The breakfast will be raising money for Walled Lake Eagles. In the daytime, the festival will include family-friendly activities and vendor booths representing the best of local businesses. Exhibitors at festivals like this often use Business Cards and other handouts to connect with new customers.

The festival area will feature roaming children’s entertainers, including juggler Crazy Craig. Other family-friendly activities include a summer reading kick-off, a petting zoo, a “Fun-Struction” obstacle course, face paint, and a bubble play party. Children’s entertainers like Guy Louis will also perform on the main stage in the early afternoon.

For older visitors, the 1825 Social Saloon Beer Tent will offer a classic tavern atmosphere while raising money for the Multi-Lakes Association. Local teams will face off in an afternoon cornhole tournament. The festival will conclude with live band performances by Atomic Radio and Power Play Detroit. Heart of the Lakes was inspired by the success of last year’s Bicentennial Celebration and aims to be a fixture of Commerce summers.

The Heart of the Lakes Festival will take place on Saturday, June 13 at the Commerce and S. Commerce Crossroads.
