The Hunchback of Notre Dame will be coming to the Saco Drive-In, accompanied by a pre-recorded, improvised score on the Kotzschmar Organ just in time for Halloween.
Such special viewings are often promoted with poster printing.
James Kennerley, Municipal Organist, will bring intriguing musical accompaniment to the American classic film by Wallace Worsley, which stars Lon Chaney. The Kotzschmar Organ is one of two municipal organs in the country and one of the most celebrated around the world. Its home has been in Portland since 1912 in the Merrill Auditorium.
The movie is based on the novel written in 1831 by Victor Hugo. The story takes place in 1482 in Paris and is one of horror, intrigue, love lost, betrayal, and murder with many twists in the plot designed to entertain audiences. The portrayal of the tortured hunchback Quasimodo by Lon Chaney made him a star after the release of the film in Hollywood. The music of Kennerley enhances the experience of the film.
The film will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday October 17 with the gates opening at 5:30 p.m. Tickets need to be ordered in advance as the capacity is 250 cars. For those who cannot make the showing, tickets are available for viewing online from noon on Friday October 30 through 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1.
