New exit on turnpike opens in Saco

The new exit in Saco along the Maine Turnpike is now open.

The cost of constructing Exit 35 was $42 million. The project included access roads, on- and off-ramps, overhead Signs, two toll plazas, new traffic lights, guardrails, and sidewalks along Route 112. The construction also caused many backups of traffic as well as a great deal of excitement for those who live or travel on a daily basis along Route 112.

The on- and off-ramps for Exit 35 are on the west side of the turnpike and are closer to Buxton and Hollis. This new exit will enable drivers to save a half mile going out of their way to get onto the turnpike.

It is hoped that this new exit will alleviate congestion near the interchange for Interstate 195 along Industrial Park Road. Access to and Interstate 195 and Saco from the Maine Turnpike will now be provided by Exit 35. The first exit can then be taken to Industrial Park Road. Industrial Park Road can now be used to access Interstate 195 from Saco to get onto the Maine Turnpike.

Officials are asking drivers to be cautious and drive slowly as they familiarize themselves with the changes in the traffic pattern.

Local Print shops often assist in spreading the word about such new exits for travelers with Flyers and other printed materials.
