One-man Christmas show comes to local theater

The Saco River Theater will be presenting a one-man performance of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens next month at the Saco River Grange Hall (SRGH) in Buxton.

The actor, Neil McGarry, is known for this role as he won Best Solo Performance from the Independent Reviewers of New England for it in 2014, while critic Jules Backer named him the “Best of Boston.” McGarry uses the original text of the story and portrays each character from it, fully staged and complete with dancing.

Promotional material for the play promises that it is entertaining and moving. Such special and unique performances are often promoted throughout a region with poster printing.

A Universalist Chapel, built in 1897 and purchased by Maine State Grange in 1908, is the home of the Saco River Theater. For 60 years it was the primary social center of Bar Mills and was used as an auction house until Packard family purchased it in 1990. The building was then renovated and opened as a cultural arts center in April 1990. The organization was granted non-profit status three years later after successful privately funded dances, concerts, and plays.

Performances will be on Friday, December 3 at 7:30 pm and on Saturday, December 4 at 2:30 and 7:30 pm. Tickets offer general admission and cost $15 per person.
