New exit in Saco to shorten commuter trips

A new interchange is set to be built on Saco that will connect Route 112 with the Maine Turnpike.

To be called Exit 35, the interchange will enable a significant congestion to be relieved on Route 112. It will include four new ramps (on- and off-ramps on both the southbound and northbound sides), two new plazas for collecting tolls, modifications to Route 112 that involve widening the route and signalized intersections at the toll plaza ramps, and construction of a new collector-distributor road that will separate the on-ramp at Exit 36 and the off-ramp at Exit 35 from the turnpike.

Additional aspects of the project will incorporate features like overhead sign structures, stormwater management, installation of tolling equipment, and guardrails. Word can be spread throughout the area about such projects with flyer printing and other printing services.

Executive director of the Maine Turnpike Authority, Peter Mills, said that the new exit will enable commuters from towns west of Saco, such as Hollis and Buxton, to get on the turnpike faster as they head south. He added that it should shorten their commute by at least 10 to 20 minutes.

Trees have been cleared for the new exit, with construction set to begin this month. The work is not expected to impact current traffic. Mills expects the exit to be opened by Thanksgiving 2025.
