New city administrator joins Saco

The city of Saco has a new City Administrator, John Bohenko.

Bohenko served as city manager in three communities in New England prior to coming to Saco. His longest tenure was as city manager for 23 years in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. His strong experience in management is backed by a master’s degree in business administration degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Bohenko believes that the city of Saco shares many of the qualities of the city of Portsmouth that includes access to the beautiful coastline, a strong financial position, excellent municipal services, and an ideal place to own a business, work, and experience a high quality of life.

HR Maine conducted a recruiting and hiring process that was very competitive. There were 29 applicants for the position, and a rigorous essay process in which nine candidates participated. Three were selected to move forward to interviews with the City Council, members of the city staff, and a community panel. Such new appointments often have a need for business card printing services.

Mayor William Doyle expressed his happiness in having Bohenko join the team of the city. He added that Bohenko has the experience and education to guide the city with a best practices approach. He said that the many years he spent in another city will help the community to meet the numerous challenges facing Saco.
