Mental health class to take place in Frederick

For those professionals who deal with mentally ill individuals on a daily basis, or those who have mentally-ill relatives and friends, an upcoming class may be of use.

Two non-profits in the Frederick area will be offering a class in which students will learn how to assist someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis. One of the groups is Project: Liberation, which is an educational provider for the Maryland Addiction and Behavioral Health Professionals Certification Board (MABPCB). The other is On Our Own of Frederick County, which is a wellness and recovery center that provides free services such as advocacy, peer support, life/recovery coaching, and resources.

The technique to be taught in this class is known as Emotional CPR or eCPR. Unlike the physical life-saving technique of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, however, the CPR in this technique stands for “Connecting, emPowering, and Revitalizing.” Overall, it is a process that creates a bridge between a person experiencing emotional distress and a supportive community, and allows them to start or return to living a normal, healthy life.

The class will take place from this Wednesday, October 27 to Friday, October 29. Its location is 22 S Market Street. Events like this are often promoted with the help of brochure printing companies, which can also produce handouts for participates to take home after the class.
