A star of film and television, and a veteran of standup comedy, will be appearing soon in Frederick, as David Adkins continues his current tour.
Better known as Sinbad, the multi-talented artist got his start on television when he landed a role on “A Different World,” a “Cosby Show” spinoff that was popular in the 1980s. His popularity increased to the point that “The Sinbad Show” became a staple on the Fox Network. He worked in film as well, and continued to do standup comedy, with various networks filming some of his appearances.
Among other honors, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) nominated him for their Image Award. The award was for his work in “Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child,” where he had given an “Outstanding Performance in an Animated/Live-Action/Dramatic Youth or Children's Series/Special.”
One person who attended a Sinbad performance said the evening was “outstanding,” enjoying his comments about such varied subjects as politics and parenting. Another audience member found him sharp and “quick witted,” and both reviewers mentioned they would travel a considerable distance to see him again.
Sinbad will be appearing at the Weinberg Center for the Arts on West Patrick Street, on February 16 at 7:30 pm. Poster printing can be used to create attractive advertisements for this type of event, as fans often like to have mementos of such evenings.
