In celebration of three widely popular offerings, Frederick's first Beer Bacon Music festival earlier this month had something to appeal to everyone.
The festival ran for two days and promised a two-ton “bacon bar”, more than 100 beers, 10 bands, and even more a la carte dishes. Although there were long lines to get into the event, as well as more lines for food, bacon, and beer, guests were happy to enjoy the sunshine with food and drink in hand.
Some attendees, who obviously prepared ahead of time, came wearing clothing appropriate to the occasion, such as a sweatshirt sporting a “body by bacon” slogan; paper hats saying “bacon lover”, and even “I ♥ beer” pins.
The bacon was so popular that the bacon bar had trouble keeping up with the demand. Darlene Brockey, who volunteered at the bar, said the line stretched out the door and all the way across the fairgrounds when the festival opened up. The bacon bar was better stocked and served bigger portions earlier in the day.
Jay Jeffrey, who organized the event, said that despite logistical problems, the day went well, with around 4,500 people showing up on Saturday.
Next year, event organizers could work with flyer printers to create a map so people can find various brewers, bands, and bacon bar easily.
