A small shop believes that its brand-new painting, on display on a side street located in downtown Frederick, will spread happiness to everyone who passes it by.
The Center: Sound, Mind, Body, a family-run enterprise with a location at 28 E. Sixth St., puts sensory experiences front and center. The married team of Marin Good and Michael Ungar believe that their retail space can act as a spiritual center for the neighborhood by offering everything sound therapy, gong meditations, yoga and Pilates lessons.
To allow the "good vibes that are inside to come out," as Ungar described it, the owners ordered a new painting for its wall that faces Sixth Street. The artwork was commissioned by the couple and was approved by the Historic Preservation Commission and the Frederick Arts Council. It was created by a local artist called Ronald Layman. Digital graphic design could be used to create representations of artwork.
Frederick's Friendship Bridge, which rises above Carroll Creek in the city center, served as inspiration for the painting. The Center sketched out a concept for the mural before presenting it to Layman for further development. Layman is a fourth-generation painter and he expressed excitement at taking on the task and expressed his gratitude for any chance to work locally.
Before the mural went up, the wall was layered with graffiti and a sign for a roofing company.
