Soulful pop duo on the way to Bethesda

An iconic band whose music was nicknamed “blue-eyed soul” is coming to Bethesda.

The Righteous Brothers first lineup was Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, who were both with the Los Angeles-based group the Paramours until they went out on their own as a duo. Their most prolific recording period took place in the 1960s and 1970s, after which they took a break. The two got back together in 1981 and remained together until 2003, when Hatfield passed away. After his death, Bucky Heard joined Medley, and they have continued to perform.

The Righteous Brothers gave music lovers some of the most memorable songs ever recorded. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” which would become their signature, appeared in 1964, and was a No. 1 hit. Three other songs made it into the Top Ten in the United States in 1965: “Just Once in My Life,” and two covers, “Ebb Tide” and “Unchained Melody,” which was used in the monster hit film “Ghost.”

Their complementary vocal ranges are a large part of their success. Medley is a bass-baritone who handles the low tones, while Hatfield, and now Heard, sings in a higher register.

A review says:
“It was a memorable night with beautifully sung music done very professionally . . .”

The Righteous Brothers will be at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda on August 15. Organizers of events like this often promote them by using poster printing to create advertising.
