What's Happening in Bethesda, MD…

Public art dedicated in Bethesda

Last month, an aluminum sculpture in the shape of a letter ‘B’ was dedicated at Veterans Park in Bethesda.

The sculpture is one of 13 that have been installed throughout the city, as the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District fulfills its commitment to bring sculpture to the district.

All the installations are in the shape of a ‘B’ for ‘Bethesda’, and are being placed throughout the entire downtown, as well as near entertainment venues. The effort is to make people aware of Bethesda as a center for the arts in general, as well as calling attention to the Arts & Entertainment District specifically.

A&E District president Cathy Bernard said the organization was happy to have artwork that shows Bethesda is an arts destination. She went on to mention the fact the Arts & Entertainment District has been designated as such by the State of Maryland, and that its home to many programs and venues that support regional and local artists. The new sculptures in particular promote local organizations that foster cultural programs and arts in Bethesda's downtown.

No fewer than 21 organizations contributed to the public art, and the A&E District board raised $50,000, which Montgomery County matched. The organizations were from all sectors.

Projects like this can benefit if sponsors work with flyer printing companies, which can create detailed materials for mailing and distribution, telling where the works can be found.
