What's Happening in Bethesda, MD…

Parks proposed as part of home-building project

The site the WMAL Radio Towers in Bethesda has been acquired by Toll Brothers, a developer based in Pennsylvania.

Cumulus Media, which owns the tower site, chose Toll Brothers to buy and develop it earlier this year. The location, which comprises 75 acres, is between I-270 and the Beltway, and will be home to 328 houses. In addition, Toll Brothers has proposed adding a dog park, and setting aside another five acres for what could be a county park at some time in the future.

Representatives of the developer have been meeting with community members for months, discussing the project and addressing residents' concerns. The plan shows there will be 328 units, of which 42 will be moderately priced. Two parking spaces will be allotted to each home, for a total of 656 spots.

The developer plans to offer six models, from the smaller moderately priced homes to luxury, single-family detached ‘Estate Homes’. Parking will be provided behind the homes, which will follow a curving pattern that largely parallels the streets of the West Fernwood area.

In addition, walking trails are planned. The dog park will be accessible to the public, and is to be situated in a wooded section of the development.

Toll Brothers could work with a newsletter printing company to develop a letter for area residents, explaining the benefits of the project.
