Movie house trio right at home in Bethesda
Dinner and a movie used to mean going to a film, and then stopping at a restaurant either before or after the show. Today though, it is possible for film-goers to have dinner right in the movie house, and Bethesda is home to three luxurious new venues where this increasingly-popular concept is available to patrons.
Bethesda was chosen for iPic Entertainment's first East Coast theater. iPic's marketing vice president, Jim Lee, says the city provides the perfect demographic profile for the company's target market. The new iPic theater is located in the Pike & Rose development. The other luxury theaters are Landmark Cinemas and the ArcLight.
In these new theaters, comfortable stadium seating is the norm, and patrons can reserve seats online well in advance of the screening. Innovative chefs create snacks like ahi tuna poke or dates wrapped in prosciutto. Some theaters serve complete meals with the film.
Improvements in the movie-going experience may not be surprising due to the rise of service like Netflix and other streaming media that allow people to watch movies at home, and with cable television. Theaters are therefore adding attractions to get people to leave home to see their entertainment.
Theater managers could work with a flyer printing company on handouts featuring discount pricing to be distributed near the venues, thereby introducing the concept to newcomers.
