What's Happening in Bethesda, MD…

Conference promotes IT to improve healthcare

Healthcare experts note that while the COVID-19 pandemic has been tremendously stressful, it also offers an opportunity for change. An upcoming conference in Bethesda will bring together experts in technology and healthcare for a meeting to foster cooperation among agencies and meet upcoming health challenges.

After three years of dealing with the pandemic, experts agree changes to the current system will be needed in preparation for the next crisis.

The answer is to involve information technology (IT) and data analytics in the healthcare system to provide mechanisms, tools, and infrastructure for redesigning care. Technology enables key players in healthcare, including academics, partners in the private sector, and government agencies, to collaborate and make the system more resilient.

Breakout sessions will explore these ideas. A session on emerging technologies will consider exploring emerging IT and strategies to improve public health, and identifying ways agencies are collaborating effectively, including how they share information.

A second session on Medicare and Medicaid will discuss the role of data in finding gaps in health care, and how the agency is ensuring equity.

Other sessions will discuss telehealth, military health, cybersecurity, the operations of the Department of Health and Human Services, and data science. There will also be a panel discussion on acquisition practices.

The two-day conference is scheduled for January 17 and 18 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel. Conferences like these are appropriate events at which attendees can exchange business cards.
