What's Happening in Bethesda, MD…

Celebrated pianist to jazz up Bethesda

An artist celebrated all over the world is coming to Bethesda.

Alex Bugnon is a native of Caux, Switzerland, which is less than five miles from Montreux and its famous jazz festival. He studied at both the Mozart Academy in Salzburg, and the Paris Conservatory before relocating to the United States when he was 19. Once in the U.S., he studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

At Berklee he was exposed to diverse musical genres, including funk, jazz, gospel, and R&B. These various styles began to influence and shape his sound. Soon after he moved to New York City, he started touring, going on the road with R&B artists such as Patti Austi, Freddie Jackson, and Melba Moore.

Once he met saxophonist Najee, he began to break through. Najee was signed to Orpheus Records at the time, and he made the introduction that resulted in Bugnon’s initial recording contract. In 1988, Bugnon released his first album, “Love Season,” on Orpheus. The album made it into the Top 40 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, as well as the Billboard 200 albums chart. His last album, “Harlem,” appeared in 2013.

A review of Bugnon in concert says:

“This was the best show I have ever been to. Alex is absolutely phenomenal!”

Alex Bugnon will be at the Bethesda Theater on November 29. To publicize events like this, organizers will often contact a professional printer who can use poster printing to create advertising.
