Blues singer coming to Bethesda
A popular artist who has been called “D.C.’s Queen of the Blues” is coming to Bethesda.
Carly Harvey was raised with music. She started in an acapella choir, then moved to the blues at the urging of a friend. Her style combines Americana roots, soul, jazz, and blues into a sound that reminds fans of the work of Nina Simone, Bonnie Riatt, and Etta James, with a dash of Ella Fitzgerald. Her friend introduced Harvey to Susan Tedeschi, who showed her what real blues are. Harvey says:
She decided to pursue the blues, and Big City Blues Magazine named her as one of the artists to watch in 2018. She has shared the stage with such stars as Junior Marvin, Kebbie Williams, and Susan Tedeschi.
Carly Harvey works with several musical projects, including a blues ensemble called “Kiss and Ride.” She is also a member of The Honey Larks, an all-female trio that plays roots and blues. She has won the D.C. Blues Society Battle of the Bands twice, and was nominated seven times for the WAMMIE, winning once as Best Blues Artist/Band.
Carley Harvey will be “Live from the Lawn” on July 26 at 7.00 pm, at the Gudelsky Gazebo at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda. Organizers of events like this can use poster printing to create advertisements to post widely.

“It wasn’t that bubbly, commercialized blues. It was the blues I really like – raw and emotional.”
