Bethesda to host gala concert
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will celebrate its 10th anniversary this month, and plans to mark the occasion with a concert in Bethesda.
The show will be held at the Music Center at Strathmore, which serves as the organization’s second home. The BSO plays approximately 45 concerts a year in the Music Center, it gives about 130 performances annually in the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, its principal home in downtown Baltimore. The orchestra plays concerts throughout the year at both these venues.
Marin Alsop is the BSO’s Music Director, and is the first woman to lead a major American orchestra. A graduate of Julliard, she seeks to bring classical music and musical education to audiences of all ages.
The gala concert will take place this Thursday, February 5, at 8:00 pm at the Strathmore. The program features pianist Garrick Ohlsson, who will play the Piano Concert No. 2 by Rachmaninoff. Also on the bill for the evening are two pieces by Ottorino Resphigi, namely ‘Pines of Rome’ and ‘Church Windows’.
Music lovers who miss the orchestra’s performance in Bethesda can catch up on February 6 or 7, when the program will be repeated at the Meyerhoff, starting at 8:00 pm on both days.
Orchestra management could work with a professional poster printing company to create colorful posters advertising the upcoming event.
