What's Happening in Bethesda, MD…

Bethesda in for a funky feeling

A group that got a start playing with James Brown is on the way to Bethesda.

The Jbs first appeared on the music scene years ago, serving as James Brown’s band from 1970 through the early part of the 1980s. The first iteration of the band was formed in March of 1970, and Fred Wesley rejoined the group in December of that year as the band leader.

In that position, Wesley take charge of a lot of the arranging and composing for the group. The recording of “Doing It to Death,” which sold more than a million copies and was certified Gold by the R.I.A.A., credited the artists as “Fred Wesley & the J.B.’s.”

Wesley made a significant impact on jazz when he became a member of the Count Basie Orchestra. In 1988, he released “To Someone,” a jazz album, and his first as the leader.

A review says:

“Fred Wesley & The New Jbs are the best Funk band out right now. Mr. Wesley has recruited the best musicians in the business . . . Thank you Mr. Wesley . . . for the best time out.”

Fred Wesley and the Jbs will be at the Bethesda Theater on June 22. When performances like this are planned, organizers will frequently contact printers who will use poster printing to create effective advertising for them.
