City donates to culinary center for homeless prevention and support center

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development has donated $200,000 to the City of Annapolis to help with the costs of renovations for the Light House Bistro.

The bistro is a restaurant that is being opened by the Light House, which is a local homeless prevention and support center.

The Light House Bistro is being opened to provide advanced training for those that have graduated from the center’s job training program for culinary arts. The program, which is called Building Employment Success Training (B.E.S.T), has its own catering company, which will be located at the Bistro. The workforce training program has likely provided qualified employees to local business who in turn can help support the Light House Bistro by posting Flyers notifying residents that it is about to open.

The bistro will accommodate seating for 50 diners and will have a full menu consisting of a coffee bar and light foods for dinners along with items for on the go. While it will provide befits to residents with the food choices, it will also provide advanced, on-the-job training to graduates of the B.E.S.T. program.
The second floor of the building will have a few housing units as living quarters for Light House residents. The restaurant and housing will also help support revitalization efforts of the area.

The Light House Bistro will be located at 202 West Street and is expected to open in the middle of January.
