Annapolis and Anne Arundel County nonprofits recently received grants totaling $427,000 from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA). These support tourism projects, historic preservation, protecting natural resources, and educational programs.
Annapolis is part of the Four Rivers Heritage area, one of the 13 heritage areas that the Maryland Heritage Area Authority oversees. Four Rivers is a nonprofit organization that works with the MHAA, the City of Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Highland Beach, and other organizations.
Four Rivers received two grants for the region. They received a management grant for $100,000 and a marketing grant for two years for $50,000.
The management grants supports heritage awards, its mini grant programs, interpreter training, networking meetings, educational workshops, online resources, and new programs.
The Annapolis Maritime Museum and Park was awarded $50,000. It will be used for planning and building a new permanent exhibit at the museum. Historic Annapolis Inc. received a grant for $25,000 for masonry repairs for a building located at 99 Main Street.
Hammond-Harwood House Association received a $10,000 grant for creating 18th-Century curb appeal - a cultural landscape study on the house. Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts received a grant for $50,000, which was for improving public access to the art through signage and other resources.
Governor Larry Hogan say that these grants allow many projects to move forward and make Maryland communities better places to work and live.
