Malden unveils artistic switchbox
Creative Malden and the city of Malden have collaborated with Priyanka Vasagam, an artist from the city, to paint a switchbox where Exchange and Commercial Streets meet to commemorate the 375th year of the incorporation of the city.
Local print shops often help to disseminate news about such projects with posters, flyers, and other printed materials.
The switchbox is a mural of Malden 375 that displays both vitality and joy with its vibrant colors and to reflect the spirit of the thriving and diverse community of the city. It also highlights iconic buildings in the city that include the House at Pine Banks Park, the B&M Railroad Station, the old Converse Building, and the Malden Public Library. It also features scenes of daily life in the city such as the Community Graden, the Bike Path, the Malden High School football player, and a sawn at Fellsmere Park.
There are also colorful lines in the background that are inspired by Frank Stella, also an artist from Malden, which show the Malden River path and the lines for the commuter rial and the MBTA Orange Line. The intersection of these paths represents the how the diverse cultures of Malden cross paths, a spirit of which the city is very proud.
The Malden motto, “Strong past. Proud future”, is also featured on the mural.
