This April, The Town and The City Festival will take over the streets and venues of downtown Lowell to provide the community with two days of music, art, and fun.
The Town and The City Festival is an arts and music festival celebrating the creativity and exploration of the author Jack Kerouac. The festival is aptly named for the Kerouac’s novel that was partly set in Lowell, which is also the author’s birthplace.
Taking a cue from Kerouac's adventurous nature, the festival will feature an inspired mix of different musical genres and artistic disciplines. The various cafes, bars, event spaces, and art galleries throughout downtown will open their doors as hosts for the events. Some of the venues include the Purple Carrot Bread Co., Smokehouse Tavern, Brew’d Awakening Coffehaus, Lala Books, Gallery Z, and Olympia’s Zorba Music Hall. Artists include Amanda Shea, Aaron and the Lord, Amber Tortorelli, Bryan Porter Hinkley, Divine Sweater, and the Free Soil Arts Collective.

The Town and The City Festival is scheduled for April 9 and April 10. The festival route will go along 143 Merrimack Street. A one-day pass can be purchased for $35, and a two-day pass can be purchased for $50.
