The state House of Representatives recently negotiated with the Lowell delegation to allocate $15m to support renovations at two academic buildings at UMass Lowell.
This money was part of a bond bill from the governor that would enable the state to spend $3.8bn on several improvement projects by 2022. It was recently amended so that $15m of these funds would go to UMass Lowell.
Lowell Representative David Nangle, in conjunction with Representatives Rady Mom and Thomas Golden, are the primary supporters of the bill, as they consider UMass Lowell to be not only one of the finest universities in the Commonwealth, but perhaps in the country.
The funding still needs to be approved by the Senate and then included in the governor’s capital investment plan. If approved, two academic buildings would undergo renovations.
An amendment to the bond bill was also filed by Nagle to appropriate $3m for renovating the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. The historic auditorium has hosted many prominent events, but is in need of repairs.
Mom commented that these funds would help to maintain the facilities at UMass Lowell and to restore the Auditorium.
Printing companies can be used to create mailers that residents can send to their senators to show support for such measure, especially if they have the potential to improve educational and other facilities in the city.
