Another store in the city of Lowell is being considered by Market Basket, which is looking to introduce a new location.
The store would be on a stretch of land the other side of the Merrimack River, opposite one of its oldest stores.
Eric Slagle, Director of Development Services for Lowell, said representatives from the supermarket chain have begun the process of seeking permits for a building, by filing an environmental notification form with the state and speaking with officials from the city about the interest the company has in the site.
Slagle added that Market Basket has owned that land for several years and has already drawn up preliminary plans. One end of the land is empty, and a JJ Boomers restaurant is located at the other end.
The preliminary plan shows the new Market Basket to be at the rear of the empty portion of the land with primary access from an adjacent street. This store would be less than a mile away from the closest Market Basket store. It is expected that this store would be renovated as part of the project.
New stores might consider using banner printing companies to create Banners for the site, as this is offers a way for those who are curious to find out what is being planned.
