The 5k for The New England Innocence Project event will take place in Lowell next month to raise money to help fight injustice in the criminal legal system.
Proceeds from the 5K will go towards funding The New England Innocence Project (NEIP), which is a social justice non-profit not affiliated with the “Innocence Project” based in New York nor any other innocence programs. It is an independent organization working separately to prevent and correct wrongful convictions and imprisonments in Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maine. The non-profit also advocates for change at the legislative level and supports exonerees reintegration into society as they rebuild their lives after incarceration.
The 5K will circle the picturesque Merrimac River and traverse UMass Lowell’s beautiful campus. The route is ideal for runners and walkers of all levels and ages, as the course will have little elevation and will follow paved sidewalks. Participants will be able to register as an individual, a “Lone Wolf,” or as teams, called “Wolf Packs.”
Running events such as this typically provide T-Shirts bearing the event’s Logo Design on it for runners to wear in support of the event cause.
The Innocence 5K is scheduled for Monday, May 8 at 10:30 am. It will start and finish at the UMass Lowell Recreation Center, which is located at 322 Aiken Avenue.
